About the company

Steel-Line Garage Doors - Wollongong has operated in the Illawarra region since 1994. In 2007, Steel-Line acquired Doorland Wollongong, a manufacturer of custom garage doors and gates, and merged it with its existing branch. The branch supplies garage doors, roller doors, shed roller doors and garage door openers, and serves Woonona, Wollongong, Unanderra, Thirroul, West Wollongong, North Wollongong, Figtree, Port Kembla and the greater Wollongong region, directly and through resellers. Steel-Line Garage Doors has serviced the Australian market for over 45 years and has a national distribution network of 22 branches.

It sells through the Steel-Line and Dynamic Door Services brands. Steel-Line products for the East Coast are manufactured in a centralised facility in Brisbane, with certain custom doors manufactured in Melbourne. The West Coast market is serviced by Steel-Line's own factory in Perth. Steel-Line is part of the BX Bunka Australia family and has two major manufacturing sites, in Brisbane and Perth. Residential installation crews operate out of 22 branches. Steel-Line achieved an NPS (Customer Satisfaction Measurement) of 65+ against an industry average of 9+. Steel-Line Wollongong's main services are supply, installation and servicing of garage doors.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Panel and industrial door work in the Illawarra region is represented here through repairs, servicing and new installations, and the feedback gathered from customers splits into distinct strands. Praise is directed at technicians Josh and Joe, who are named for arriving promptly, carrying out professional work and explaining each step clearly, including an urgent after-hours call where a new opening mechanism was fitted so a property was not left accessible overnight. The office team is credited with keeping people informed before and after the job. Buyers also note product quality, describing doors that perform as expected once fitted properly.

A recurring complaint, by contrast, concerns after-sales support. Several accounts describe trouble arranging inspections or service visits for doors already in place, with calls not returned and promised follow-ups failing to eventuate. Trade customers report installations that did not match an agreed design brief or specification. Quoting is another repeated point, with components needed for compliance not identified upfront and installers declining to refit existing parts on the day. Taken as a whole, the unresolved warranty-type enquiries described by these customers stand in contrast to the technical skill shown on routine work.

Great service from both office in Unanderra and technician, Josh who was around in a couple of hours and explained everything really well.

Outstanding, our garage door after 7 or 8 years needed maintenance , I called Steel-Line in the morning one day and Josh came out the next morning ,worked his magic, and now our door works perfectly ,possibly the best it ever worked.Josh was friendly and a pleasure to deal with and the price was very good considering I should have had maintenance done on a regular basis. Great experience. 👍

Disappointing experience at the hands of Shane the branch manager. I requested a damaged industrial door be replaced. I was quoted as such, however I was not aware of an additional seal at the top of the door that’s important for our bushfire compliance. Sales rep didn’t mention it. The installer was asked on the day to please reinstall the existing seal on the new door - but he was essentially too lazy to spend the extra 20 mins to do the job correctly. I asked the steel line team to please consider coming to install the seal free of charge - it is what I would do for one of my customers - but Shane felt it was important to hide behind the quotation wording and not accept that we are not all experts in roller doors, like himself and his team. Anyway- it’s important to note that I have never left a google review good or bad. This is the first time. This is important to highlight how poorly I think we were treated by this business.

Terrible customer service on faulty product. Refused to inspect after complaint. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had following a significant investment and purchase. Buyer beware.

Very disappointing, our panel door was installed 5 years ago. Shane refused to hear my concerns or inspect our door without a call out fee. Two other local companies were happy to view and carry out repairs. So disappointed that the company that took our money didn't want to know us.
